{ i want to ride my bicycle }

Yay...it's Friday and the first weekend of Spring! What could be better? One of the things I most look forward to about Spring is ditching my car and instead, riding my bike. Last night, one of my twitter friends tipped me off to this amazing site and I instantly fell head over in heels in love.  It's been described as the Sartorialist on two wheels.

I'm inspired to find my inner cycle chic, aren't you? Our city just approved Sac City Streets--an event scheduled the first Sunday of each month--that allows for the soft closure of some downtown streets {to cars} to make it more bike and pedestrian friendly. Do any of you have a similar program where you live? I'm anxious to see it in action.

I'm off now to enjoy the beautiful Spring weather that has already arrived here. I hope each of you can experience a bit of Spring in your little corner of the world this weekend. Thank you to all who commented and participated in yesterday's giveaway post--I loved reading your responses about Spring and am thrilled to have *met* some lovely new efriends. If you haven't yet participated, it's not too late! The giveaway is open through Saturday, 3/21. Don't be shy... we're friendly around here--I promise-- and I'd love to hear about your favorite Spring pleasures.

Happy, happy Friday!

That girl in the high heeled boots has me green with envy. I have the cutest bicycle, but I'm a little scared to ride it in the city. Maybe I'll get inspired.

Very chic but makes me nervous that not a one has a helmet on their head...I'm such a ninny. :)

I love this post! And so very appropriate for the first day of spring. In fact, I rode my bike to work today for the first time since mid December when I hibernated for the winter season. Today's ride was glorious. However, I'm not quite as cute as all these people. My helmet and velcro ankle guard make it almost impossible.

Oh my gosh...the helmet factor! I completely overlooked it. No wonder they look so chic--choosing style over safety I suppose. :)

Isn't CCC beautiful? I'm "forced" to read it regularly for my day job along with his other site, Copenhagenize.com; it's really a shame. ;)

I was all set to ride my bike to work this morning to celebrate the official beginning of spring, but it was far chillier outside than the sunlight indicated! Alas. I'm hoping it warms up soon here!

(P.S. They aren't wearing helmets because it's so safe to ride a bike on their "complete streets" in Europe that there's no need for helmets. Safety in numbers, etc. I have lots of research and data from my work to pass on if anyone's curious.)

I thought these might have been Copenhagen pics. Aren't they all so beautiful on their bicycles. I was so inspired by them when I visited a few years ago - they seem to effortlessly get around this way, even with their children. Of course, it helps that Copenhagen is a relatively flat town - saves the leg muscles a little!

Hi Suzanne,

Thanks for the blog and twitter love. I do love CCC and my goal is to report on chic-ness in our awesome town.

I am waiting for spring to hit so I can post more pics of Sactown ladies looking sac cycle chic.

I want a bike so badly but I have an irrational fear of riding one in NYC...plus, where will I put it in my NYC apt?! In any event, when we were in Italy earlier this month we rented bikes in Tuscany and we loved it! My husband and I have been together for almost 8 years and at this point there are few things that we haven't done together but riding a bike was one of them! so fun:) turns out you never forget how:) I LOVE these photos...thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing this site on Copenhagen. I was in Copenhagen the summer of 2001 and I have to say that I was really impressed with this city especially how everyone got around so easily on their bicycles all dressed up in heels, skirts, etc. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Now my friends believe me.
