dock at dusk
A silver lining of this summer's rising gas prices {and plane fares} has been the {re}discovery of vacation destinations close to home. It's quite possible we would not have experienced the breathtaking beauty of Lake Tahoe–arguably one of the most amazing places to visit in America and just 90 minutes from our front door–had we not been forced to take a more practical approach to our summer vacation plans this year. After falling under its magical spell last week, it's unimaginable that we could have ever taken this true jewel of the West for granted.

your photos are so fantastic - i feel like i'm there! you make staycations look pretty great in your neck of the woods.
Pretty stunning, and only 90 minutes away - you lucky thing. Its amazing what we take for granted just because it is close. I'm planning a staycation this year as well, but we don't have mountains like that in CT. Just hills. Hill-ettes, really.
I agree with the idea of looking at what's near you like you were visiting for the first time. I have been meaning to do that exact same thing in my capital city, Sydney. I take it for granted and thought it's time to explore the museums and galleries I haven't been in for years.
You know, it's funny...we're totally rethinking our summer vacation and staying local. Just yesterday I made a list of things to do and I'm getting really excited about it! That Crystal Lake looks so peaceful.
I love the photos -- so zen
What a clever photographer you are :) I love that opening shot of the dock, WOW! It looks like you guys had a fabulous time :)

These are wonderful photos! I love the one of the little girl on the pier looking into the lake - it just totally captures the summer spirit - fabulous!
I thought it looked familiar. Us Sacramentan's are quite fortunate to live so close to Tahoe....one of the most beautiful places in the world.
This is so wonderful! I love all of these shots....looks like a fabulous vaca.
Wow - it is absolutely gorgeous there. I've never been but have seen other posts featuring it and would love to visit some day. You are indeed lucky to be so close. Love your wonderful photos!
