{ while i was out... }

A silver lining of this summer's rising gas prices {and plane fares} has been the {re}discovery of vacation destinations close to home.  It's quite possible we would not have experienced the breathtaking beauty of Lake Tahoe–arguably one of the most amazing places to visit in America and just 90 minutes from our front door–had we not been forced to take a more practical approach to our summer vacation plans this year. After falling under its magical spell last week, it's unimaginable that we could have ever taken this true jewel of the West for granted.

  5. Pretty stunning, and only 90 minutes away - you lucky thing. Its amazing what we take for granted just because it is close. I'm planning a staycation this year as well, but we don't have mountains like that in CT. Just hills. Hill-ettes, really.

  6. I agree with the idea of looking at what's near you like you were visiting for the first time. I have been meaning to do that exact same thing in my capital city, Sydney. I take it for granted and thought it's time to explore the museums and galleries I haven't been in for years.

  7. You know, it's funny...we're totally rethinking our summer vacation and staying local. Just yesterday I made a list of things to do and I'm getting really excited about it! That Crystal Lake looks so peaceful.
